YOU HAVE: A lifetime of skills and experience, plus energy and enthusiasm to offer a year of your lives in Christian service. You are looking to be challenged to grow and be stretched and try new things. You probably have specific skills that the charity can draw on, plus a willingness to muck in with many of the tasks relating to the general running of the Sheldon buildings and grounds.
WE CAN OFFER: Accommodation in Mary's Lodge, plus food. A financial allowance can also be made available according to need, up to a maximum of the level of the Community allowance (~£80/week). We will give plenty of on the job training and support to enable you to fulfil your roles. We will make you welcome as you share in our life and ministry, and ensure you have sufficient time off for a healthy balance.
LIFE AT SHELDON: Our basic pattern is to work six days a week and have one day off. We share a commitment to morning and evening prayers in chapel Mondays to Fridays, and there is usually a eucharist once or twice a month. Sundays are often busy days so we do not expect to attend local churches on a regular basis. An important part of our week is a Community meal together on Saturday evening. The rest of the week meals are sometimes taken with guests (when we are running events) or we cater for ourselves. Our work teams comprise Maintenance, Housekeeping and Administration, and work for all Community, staff and volunteers is line managed within these teams. Our first priority is the general running of Sheldon to serve the guests who stay here. However, there is often scope for special projects according to the particular skills that team members can offer at particular times. We have recently extended Mary's Lodge to provide suitable accommodation for a married couple, and priority consideration will be given to a couple with both partners looking to contribute. However, single people are also very welcome to apply and will be considered seriously.
Before applying, we recommend that you take a good look at our website for an understanding of the flavour of our ministry, and we will be pleased to send leaflets on request. You might also like to buy a copy of the Community's new book. If you have any specific questions before writing your full application, you are welcome to send just a brief introduction in the first instance and after that one of us will be willing to answer questions by phone or email.
SELECTION: Please write/email Carl with a letter of aplication. This should include information about your skills, employment history, health, spirituality, other interests, and what excites you about this opportunity.
