JOINING THE COMMUNITY

The Sheldon Community is ready to grow. Are you?

(If a shorter term commitment might be for you, why not think about a Living Alongside?)

Community members bring practical skills and a readiness to work in one of the 3 teams (Housekeeping, Administration or Maintenance). We see the outworking of our ministry and our commitment to our guests primarily in the day to day tasks of service, including paperwork, cleaning, gardening and cooking. Our ministry is to create a container within which our many guests can encounter the God of Surprises without too much interference from us.

Community members come with a firm (although not necessarily conventional) Christian faith; a willingness to commit to the core values of stability, stewardship and servanthood; and a desire to grow in your spirituality and humanity. You need to have a genuine interest in caring for people, with a sensitivity to giving space to guests. We have decent accommodation available, and are willing to consider applicants to any of the 3 teams. Enthusiasm, commitment, aptitude and a willingness to learn often count for as much as formal qualifications.

Those considering Community membership need to be in good physical and mental health and have the maturity to make a full contribution to the practical work of the house and community living. Life at Sheldon is very varied and the focus of your commitment is on site. You should be free from debt and significant family obligations.

If you would like to begin a conversation about joining the Sheldon Community, please write an introductory letter about yourself to the Warden.

We would like to know about what you have to offer, and how you would hope to benefit from Community life. Tell us about your skills, your employment history, your wider interests, and what excites you about this opportunity. Please provide your address, telephone and email details and we will respond within 2 weeks. We don't take telephone enquiries in the first instance, but will be pleased to do so after an initial contact by letter.
