LONG BARN DESIGN

Design brief

The design for the Long Barn needs to serve many different guests.

  • Our highest priority is to drastically improve the quality, comfort, privacy and outlook of our 10 smallest bedrooms. This is primarily to meet the needs of our clergy guests on events like 12,000-mile service weeks. The smallest cell bedrooms are very small, and 10 rooms share just one upstairs shower and toilet.
  • The single existing meeting room downstairs is on a split level that make it difficult for disabled guests to access. The new building will have level access throughout.
  • The existing building has poor natural light and very limited views due to small high windows in thick walls. The new building will be light and airy with lovely views across the valley.
  • The Long Barn is also used by self-catering and day groups. Having only one communal/meeting room limits its use. Having two rooms will make it more useful as a stand-alone building.
