Awakening to wholeheartedness

Led by Mark Godson

For the plumber to plumb, the gardener to garden and the priest to pastor, she must first discover that deepest vocation in her being. As Mary Oliver reminds us in The Journey, when the pressure from others calling out “mend my life" and the voices within keep "shouting their bad advice”, our life can easily become one of busyness, exhaustion and burnout. Yet the antidote to exhaustion isn’t rest, it’s wholeheartedness, a life of union and unity, a life undivided.

When we feel adrift, when anxiety takes over, when regrets overwhelm us and nothing that we do works, we need to hear the voice that says, “Where are you? Come home.” This retreat will encourage you to wake up to your deepest life, to the eternity of the present moment, to find wholeness right where you are - in the world, among broken and divided souls like you, in imperfect communities with imperfect priests and imperfect churches. We’ll look at becoming holy without becoming exhausted; at cultivating wholeness and mindfulness; and entering into a new way of living.

Awakening to wholeheartedness is a silent retreat with talks and time to meet with Mark individually. There will be exercises and suggestions for practice between sessions and a gently firm invitation to leave the piles of books, knitting and other distractions in your bags.

Mark Godson lives and works in the shadow of the Black Mountains on the English/Welsh border as a rural community priest, and offers spiritual direction and supervision. As a Director of the Mind Clinic, Mark works with Simon Parke to create insight, clarity and creativity in the workplace.
